Building Blocks
Joyent Accelerators are the fundamental building block of our cloud. Accelerators are virtualized servers deployed within an ecosystem of the highest grade networking and routing fabric available, hardware load balancing, persistent and fast storage, and a top notch systems development and operations team. Our Accelerator™ powered compute cloud provides a highly scalable on-demand infrastructure for running web sites, including rich web applications written in Ruby on Rails, PHP, Python and Java. Joyent’s cloud is open, scalable, and fast.
Accelerators are built on Joyent’s custom distribution of OpenSolaris, which provides users with the power and stability of OpenSolaris, along with the familiar directory structure and package management of Linux/NetBSD.
Accelerators are virtualized servers (8+ cores, 32+GB RAM) with vast amounts of NAS storage. They are deployed within an ecosystem of the fastest networking and routing fabric available (Force 10), the best hardware load balancers (F5 Networks) or the best software load balancers (Zeus). Apache, Nginx, MySQL, PHP, Ruby on Rails, and JAVA are pre-installed.
Joyent Accelerators come with full root access, giving you total control over setup and security configuration.
Joyent’s Storage is Real, Not Virtual
OpenSolaris’ ZFS filesystem provides seamless access to as much NAS powered storage as you need. This means that if the system goes down, you do not need to suffer through a long boot as you re-instantiate an entire virtual machine, with data, from a remote data store. Instead, your data is still there on your disks and the Open Solaris means you can be up and running within 10 seconds.
Open and Standards Based Means No Lock-In
We are going to try and get you hooked on our great support, first class infrastructure and flexibility; but we are never going to lock you in. The Joyent Cloud is designed to be open so that if we don’t “wow” you with our service then you can always move to another provider or your own infrastructure. We are confident that this will not happen.
